Working across the political histories of colonization and its prevalence in the contemporary world, my practice investigates the role of artistic production as healing and resistance. Inexpensive, re-purposed and easily acquired materials such as muslin, cotton fabrics, recycled plastic and other household textiles are used in my work to create a sense of familiarity. The work serves as a catalyst for creating space to have conversations around the identity politics of people of color— confronting the sociopolitical complexities we inherently face. The casual nature of material choice encourages individuals to participate in open dialogue with not only the work itself, but the political framework in which it and the audience live.
