Advanced Fiber Studio (Highlights)
I work within a combination of practices, largely focused in the creation of fleshy, biomorphic sculptures in a variety of mediums and iterations. The objects I create exist in a state of flux, alternating between alien and familiar, playful and erotic, or body and product. Seductive, flesh-like materials and bright colors are used to explore the power of the object to fascinate and entice, to incite desire, and its potential to be owned and controlled. The colors I select denote the playful nature of the object while simultaneously indicating toxicity or sickness. Glossy materials appear synthetic, placing these objects in spaces of categoric uncertainty. Small objects create intimacy, while larger pieces may recall other associations. These forms illicit the body through simple gestures referencing an orifice, fold, or other feature, evoking vague eroticism while ultimately remaining ambiguous and playful. I create ambiguous new bodies which intent to tempt the viewer to indulge, prompting a desire to touch, taste, or examine.
