The politics of the body and the way in which it governs itself within a singular and social context is a key driving force in my work. I investigate structures and systems of language surrounding the body, often in an effort to construct, reconstruct and deconstruct the politics of movement and commonly accepted behavioral patterns. My investigations mirror my concerns surrounding issues of race, gender, and class within an popular culture context specific to an American (the U.S. to be exact) frame.
I work with time-based media that include but are not limited to video, performance, and animation. My process involves responding to particular behavioral observations from the products of mass culture (i.e. Youtube Culture, social media practices) but extend to real life cultural studies. I take an element of mass consumption and analyze it in an effort to extract, amplify and sometimes make abject the associative meanings.
