Styrofoam Plates, Weekly Advertisements, Acrylic medium
2011
I make multiple layered surfaces that are cut and torn, even dismembered to see what different ways a material can be transformed. I use discarded materials such as phone books, single use Styrofoam plates, disposable plastic bags, and weekly ads extracted from my community. I reuse and alter these items in an act of redefining their meaning. The usage of found materials in combination with practices such as painting, drawing and sewing serves as a framework to create objects that visually express my personal struggle of class difference as a member of Latino communities.
