Advanced Fiber Studio (Highlights)
The themes of my recent works have come in stages of sickness, fear of death, and the afterlife. It began with my diagnosis of macular degeneration and the news that my grandpa had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. In dealing with these anxieties about my genetic future and health, I have translated the effects that time has on one’s body and mind into embroidered textiles.
I include hand stitching, digital embroidery and digital sound in my work. I see a definite relationship forming between my interest in embroidery and digital sound in that both realms require great attention to detail and involve intricate construction. These methods that require such concentration relate to my fear of loss of memory and sight but in dealing with these fears I find comfort in my options with digital sound.
