Advanced Fiber Studio (Highlights)
This is a project rooted in the epigenesis of place. From one move to the next, I encounter places that present me with rough edges, architectural situations, and elements of terror that leave their mark on me. I find this element of transience of place evocative of the nature of lichens. Some lichens found in nature are as old as the glaciers, their existence thus serving as a marker of change, trauma; time. In beading my own lichen forms, I am producing objects that allude to these naturally-occurring organisms while stirring interest in their relation to time. The aesthetic of the slideshow instigates a certain awkward distance between the viewer and the viewed, alluding to my own jarring experiences with the adorned sites. One thus begins to infer relationships between the two sites as well as between the beaded lichens and their particular milieus.
