Advanced Fiber Studio (Highlights)
I utilize fiber and sculptural objects in an effort to ask viewers to reflect on their relationships. Captivated by eroticism, platonic relationships, and the utilization of kitsch as romantic gestures, my praxis focuses on sentimentality, youth, light, and what it means to love love. My research heavily concentrates on the efforts of practical living, utility of clothing, and erotic art and writers as I attempt to create for my home and for people’s homes. Basing my work on the idea of intimacy, relationships, and love in a home, I begin with everyday objects that are practical and often reused, giving an object a second life. When making or designing, I attempt to manifest whatever I yearn for at that particular moment. In a way, I fulfill what I desire by following what I am fascinated by, whatever is on my mind. I make conscious, self-illuminating, intuitive decisions, and do not overthink or censor my desires in an effort to not question where they originate. With color, texture, symbols, and humor, I weave these topics together to explore the intersection of one’s intimate desires with their everyday reality.
