Advanced Fiber Studio (Highlights)
Conversations, perspectives, intuition, and participation are key components of the work that I create. Discussions with both familiar and unfamiliar individuals commonly drive the narratives of my research as well as the final visualization of my projects. The divergent nature and complex backgrounds possessed by human beings and their willingness to share their stories functions as a collaborative motive for my work.
A fundamental quality of my practice often interconnects fibers and written poetics through the relationship an individual has with objects that have been assigned as approachable. My practice encourages participation, attempting to abolish any essence of hierarchy between the artwork and the viewer. I promote the ability to touch, move, create, and discover the work with me, with others, or with self. There is an intent to re-humanize the connection individuals have with worldly objects, materials, and events.
As a means of creating a safe environment that welcomes intuition, self-expression, rejected subject matter, and reflective conversations, my work supports the removal of self from the boundaries of one’s comfort zone. It is the individuals and their interactions with the piece, what they see, feel, and experience, that drives my creative process.
