The effect of language is important. Religious language can be unifying but it can also be tremendously divisive and dangerous. In my studio practice, I have been examining different types of religious language while pursuing an ongoing interest in embedding text in textiles. Using various woven materials as a substrate for sustaining language in place of paper gives language a physical presence. Through this material transformation, I can provide a new context for considering and alternate reading of traditional religious texts.
